Just found out my dad’s in the hospital with a severe intestinal infection. Whatever you do (good thoughts, prayers, whatever), can you please take a minute to think them for my dad? I don’t have many details yet, but I will keep people posted.

Thank you.

And a bunch of just-caramel-with-chocolate also.

I used my great-grandma Milly’s recipe and they taste just like hers. I miss her. Making these makes me want to punch stitch and crochet and play Rummy. She was a delightful lady, and I’m really glad I have her recipe to make these. It’s the first year I’ve done it, but it feels like something that might become a tradition.

A story:

When my sister and I were little, my great-grandma used to make these same turtles. My sister and I didn’t like nuts, though, so she would make us turtles without nuts. One Christmas, she showed up at our house with her usual candy stash in baggies for everyone. The ones for my sister and me were labeled, “Girls- no nuts.”

My mom and dad thought it was hilarious, and my great-grandma did, too, once she got it. It’s still a running joke— one that was tossed around when I mentioned I would make these turtles this year.
